BIO

The American guitarist Andrew Zohn enjoys international recognition as a performer, teacher and composer. He has played concerts on four continents, both as a soloist and as part of Duo Spiritoso with acclaimed Canadian guitarist Jeffrey McFadden. Since 1999, Dr. Zohn has served on the faculty of the Schwob School of Music (Columbus State University) in Georgia and is a visiting faculty member at the Istituto Musicale Pareggiato della Valle d’Aosta in Italy. He holds a doctor’s degree in music from The Florida State University. Andrew Zohn has performed and taught at many of the world’s most prestigious music festivals and some of his students have won prizes in several international competitions. He regularly receives commissions to compose new works for performing artists and arts institutions. He has five times been the recipient of a Plus Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). His recordings for Clear Note and Centaur Records have received wide acclaim from American Record Guide, Classical Guitar Magazine, GuitArt Magazine, Soundboard, Guitarra Magazine, and Rosewood Review.

Dave Pilon

BIO

Originating from the Laurentides region, Dave Pilon began his classical guitar studies at Lionel-Groulx College under Gilles Lauzon and Isabelle Héroux. In 2000, he was admitted to the studio of Jean Valières at the Montreal Music Conservatory, where he was awarded a Performance Prize in 2005. He also trained under internationally-renowned guitarist Fabio Zanon. He complemented his guitar training with studies in advanced harmony and counterpoint under Jacques Faubert, as well as conducting and chorale under Louis Lavigneur. From 2004 to 2007, he studied with renowned conductor Raffi Armenian in the orchestral conducting class at the Conservatory. During this period, he directed both the Conservatory’s guitar and symphonic orchestras, in concert and in rehearsal. Dave has been director of the Montreal Guitar Society’s orchestra since 2005. He continues to perform as a solo artist as well as part of a saxophone and guitar duo which he formed with his wife Mélissa Séguin.

Detlev Bork - classical guitar / flamenco guitar

BIO

Detlev Bork has been praised by the international press and has received numerous awards, including the “Best Classical Musician Award”. His CD “The Other Spanish Guitar” was elected “Classical Recording of the Month” in the USA.

As grandson of a distinguished pianist, Detlev Bork grew up in a musical atmosphere. He studied the guitar at the Musikhochschule Köln, dpt of Aachen, with Tadashi Sasaki and in London with Carlos Bonell. He took part in master classes with José Tomás, Abel Carlevaro, Eduardo Fernández, Luise Walker and others, and also studied the flamenco style in Spain with Andrés Batista, Felix de Utrera, Luis Maravilla and José Luis Postigo.

Detlev Bork has performed as soloist, chamber musician or with orchestra throughout Europe, USA, Israel, and Mexico, and he is a very popular guest lecturer at music schools and festivals.

Jeffrey McFadden

BIO

Jeffrey McFadden has been acknowledged as one of the finest guitarists of his generation. Over the past years, concert engagements have taken him throughout Canada and the United States and into Europe. He has given World Premieres of works by numerous composers and has been a featured performer at several international music festivals, including "Guitar '87" and GuitarFest '91 in Toronto , Gitarren-Symposium Iserlohn, Lachine International Guitar Festival, the Columbus State Guitar Symposium, The Niagara International Chambre Music Festival, the National Flute Association (USA) Convention and many others. Jeffrey has given masterclasses and seminars at some of North America's most prestigious institutions including the Université de Montréal, Conservatoire de Music à Hull/Gatineau, University of British Colombia, Michigan State University and the Oberlin College Conservatory. He is adjunct professor of guitar at the University of Toronto.

Roddy Ellias

BIO

Roddy Ellias is a unique guitarist and composer whose work spans both classical and jazz music. Since 1979 he has performed and/or recorded with Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrel, Nat Adderley, Slide Hampton, Red Norvo, Mark Murphy, Cleo Laine, Pepper Adams, The National Arts Centre Orchestra and many more. His compositions have been performed and recorded by a wide range of artists including I Musici de Montréal, Canadian singer Anne–Marie Donovan, Chelsea Bridge, and the American violin virtuoso Anne Akiko Meyers, as well as by his own groups. His recordings in both the jazz and classical fields have earned him national and international acclaim. Roddy's unique personal approach to playing and writing music have made him a valuable member of Concordia University's Department of Music, where, as an Associate Professor, he continues to teach guitar and composition.

Simone Iannarelli

BIO

Simone Iannarelli was born in Rome in 1970. He studied classical guitar with Massimo Delle Cese, graduating from the Conservatory “A.Casella” in L’Aquila with the highest honors. He then studied in Paris with Roland Dyens and Guillaume Cornesson. He has published more than 30 works for solo guitar, guitar duo, guitar & flute, guitar & String Quartet, and other chamber music formations. Mr Iannarelli keeps a lively schedule as a concert player, focusing on the interpretation of his own music. In 2004 he released his first CD “Rue De La Folie Regnault” featuring pieces composed and played by him (Guitart Label). His New Cd “Playa Paraiso” will be released by Mexican label Urtext Digital Classic. In September 2005 Mr. Iannarelli was awarded with the “Chitarra d’oro “(Golden Guitar), for his activity as composer, by the Presidency of the International Guitar Competition "Città di Alessandria". Simone Iannarelli is currently professor of classical guitar at the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Colima, in Mexico.

Haralabos Stafylakis

BIO

Born in Montreal, Haralabos Stafylakis began his music education at the age of  four with the piano and became enthralled with the electric guitar as a teenager. Following collegial studies in the Liberal Arts, Haralabos turned his attention to music production and audio engineering, eventually focusing on the field of contemporary classical music. He holds a Music DEC in classical guitar and composition from Vanier College, and is now completing his B.Mus. in Composition (Honours) at the McGill University Schulich School of Music. He has twice been a scholarship and fellowship student with the European American Musical Alliance composition programme at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, and is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the 1st Prize in the 2008 Guitare Montréal Composition Competition for his piece for guitar ensemble, Waves Obsidian. To date, his works have been performed in Canada, the USA, and France. He is published by Les Productions D’Oz.
